Just an excuse to see some pictures of classic SAAB's :D

Not mine but looks great. Think the 96 always looked good in white. My father had one and whilst my parents were away for the day I took it out for a 20 mile drive when I was fourteen only to come back hammering into the drive to be confronted by my parents who had come home early  The garage doors were locked after that  Nothing a screw driver couldn't fix by undoing the hinges though  I'm taking a note of the mileage on mine and chaining it to the ground when my son becomes old enough to reach the pedals :|

It's fair to say that I didn't entirely know what I was taking on when I bought it! Lol!

With you on that one, I won't know what I've got mechanically until I finally get her home  :| She is only 73,000 miles but has only had 10 mile round trips for the annual MOT and a couple of times around the block in recent years with no servicing so the antifreeze will be non-existent but you've got to take a chance and have a go havn't you  I'll put a pic up in the project thread with the rad off like yours and see what I've got :|

Planning to flush the system, back flush or re-core the rad, new water pump whilst the front is off, new thermostat etc and put on new hoses - fingers crossed she is OK but there is always something isn't there!!

As you may be able to tell, keeping the car original wasn't top of my list of priority.

Wrongness. Earlier grille, earlier bumper over-riders, lowered front bumper, not very legal black/silver reg plates, earlier badges on wings, trims removed on doors and rear quarters, trims added to wings, earlier boot badge, Jetex exhaust, earlier chrome stone guards, earlier mudflaps, Mota Lita steering wheel, C900 interior, BOSE surround sound system, wrong badges on wrong colour 'elephant ears', black front scuttle cover, non standard issue wheels, wrong sized tyres, various engine modification....... I could probably go on.

Did I mention it should be Amber Gold and the colour code is still wrong under the bonnet?

Maybe not original but a huge improvement in looks IMHO from the original spec, very tasteful. Love the look of the earlier models and the interior must be plush! :D

I'd love one like that in red/green. You don't fancy spotlights then Ian? Always thought they look good on that model... It's always a tricky one as they look just as good without them, same as a short nose!

Like the alloys also as you have painted all the outside bits black, I would do the same if I ever got any again as they don't look like 'flowers' so much then... good idea that man :D . Will be keeping Ruffles original but I may get another one for a bit of fun to do with my son who would like a rally 'looking' one.... and me :D

He's colouring one of these in at the moment which will have to do for now...

I did fit them originally but took them back off, prefer the look without tbh.....

I haven't painted anything. The wheels were acid bathed then painstakingly hand crafted to look something like straight. After that they were powder coated black, then all the raised surfaces were removed of the black, polished and finally lacquered.

Bearing in mind what they cost me unfinished then adding the cost of the work done they stand me at a substantial amount of dosh.

Painted indeed......! :|

A bit of smartening-up is in progress. Since the pic of my '61 Bullnose in bits, the door bottoms have been re-made, the NSF inner wing has had a small repair and the outer wings have been blasted and made good. Next comes primer, paint and reassembly. It's being done by Robin Dalwood who used to run Porsche specialist Autofarm's bodyshop.

I've been meaning to have my Saab beautified for years, but it was the inner wing trouble on the eve of the last MOT that made me finally get it done. Apart from that inner wing, the structure is completely solid. It got a lot of rustproofing substance injected into it in Sweden years ago, which is what has saved it.

John

Great pictures folks, some lovely machinery being shown here although one's showing a bit of time and use are not exempt, they all look good in whatever condition...
