Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

Hi

Like the Saab manuals, it takes a 75w-80 and the best options are the Red Line MTL or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers TRX 75w-80, Valvoline and Motul Motylgear are good alternatives.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-670-75w-80-75w-85-mtfs.aspx

It takes about 2.5L.

I would be careful and check with Renault as they can be quite strict about oils used under warranty (it it has any warranty left).

Cheers

Tim

Hi Tim, of all the info I've found on the net most places recommend 80w90 GL5 oil. Is it a definite yes that 75w80 can be used in these?

Thanks

Hi

Looking at my databases, I can't find an 80w-90 GL5 listed for a Master, even early ones (80w-90 is often used in older vehicles). The only time I can see an 80w-90 GL5 being listed for a Master is in the diff of the rear wheel drive ones. Those still require 75w-80 for the gearbox, like the front wheel drive version.

Cheers

Tim

Hi

You need a 75w-80 for the gearbox and the best proven options are the Red Line MTL or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers TRX 75w-80, Valvoline and Motul Motylgear are good alternatives.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-670-75w-80-75w-85-mtfs.aspx

Your diff takes a 75w-140 LSD oil and the Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip, Gulf Gear LS, Red Line 75w-140 GL5, Fuchs Sintopoid LS, Motul Gear Competition and Millers CRX NT LS are good options.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-674-75w-140-gear-oils.aspx

You need 2.2L for the gearbox and 1.9L for the diff.

Cheers

Tim

Quaife diffs don't need a specific oil, they are designed to work with the standard gear oil, so a 75w-80 like Red Line MTL, Fuchs Sintofluid, Millers TRX 75w-80, Valvoline and Motul Motylgear

Hi Tim, is there any particular reason why it would take LSD oil in considering that the diff doesn't have any clutch plates/lsd as such? Perhaps this is for the 4x4 iveco daily diff's?

Thanks

Hi

Honest answer is that I don't know. Transits also take a 75w-140LS oil and I don't know if it's a case of the approved/suggested oils are LSD oils, or if there is a benefit in some way. One thing that can happen is that an oil can be over-specced just to make sure that it isn't rubbish. Like there are 75w-140 oils that are mineral based and aimed at low demand industrial vehicle use, but a 75w-140 LSD oil will tend to be higher spec stuff, aimed at motorsport use. It might be overkill for a road-going LSD in a van, but at least it won't cause issues.

Cheers

Tim

Hi Tim, another one (quite a few over the last few months but 95% of the cases I purchase the oils you recommend through opie just saves me the hassle of writing an email).

Merc ML270 2002, all drivetrain oils, inc diff's, auto box & transfer case - your recommendation and their capacity.

Thanks

Hi

This is ideal for the gearbox

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68895-fuchs ... 23614.aspx

This for the transfer box.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-969-fuchs-t ... fluid.aspx

The diffs need a 75w-90 GL5 oil.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90- ... fluid.aspx

The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Red Line 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices.

Cheers

Tim

I'll go for Mobil oil, but can you advise the quantity usually needed? Thanks in advance.

Hi

Honest answer is I'm not sure as you can never change the whole lot in an autobox. I think it's about 4L, but I'm not 100% sure.

Cheers

Tim

Hi

A more modern option for the transaxle would be something like the Red Line MTL, which is a 75w-80 ester synthetic or there is the Castrol EP80w if you want to go for the original spec.
