If is with regret that we post this warning to all users.
We have within the last few months had problems with deals made between members of this forum going bad, and we feel we need to warn all users of this forum about the problems.
Most of these problems have involved people advertising a part, taking payment, then not sending the part. Most of these occurrences have sadly involved advertisers of long standing membership and with lots of posts to their name.
Please remember to protect yourself in all dealings you enter into online, as you would in person. Please do not assume that because someone has been around for a long time, or has lots of posts, they are automatically trust worthy.
What can we do?
We can bring pressure to bear on members who don't meet their obligations. We can (and have recently) warn them that their conduct is not acceptable and their membership is in danger- often this little nudge prompts them into action.
We can (and have recently) withdraw members' PM function and access to the classifieds, if they keep messing other users around (but aren't going as far as stealing parts/money permanently).
We can (and have recently) banned users for stealing parts and money and not responding to other users/us.
We may be able to give you information to assist you with recovering your part/money.
What can you do?
Talk to us. If you're being messed about, let us know- it may be other users are also having trouble. If you feel you want to, you can approach us in confidence, we will respect your right to anonymity.
Protect yourself. Do not send money that you cannot afford to lose, to people you don't know anything about- try and get, and verify, at least the basic info about who that person is; their full name and address for one. Some payment methods are safer than others, and many may offer some sort of protection in the event of a purchase going wrong. Depending on the value of the sale it may be prudent to consider this.
Please remember that whilst we will do everything we can to help anyone wronged by someone else on this forum, it is your own responsibility to protect yourself. UKS takes no responsibility for adverts posted on the forum or for the smooth and satisfactory conclusion of any arrangements made between members of the forum.
