My Saabs & Friends

#1 Post by Alex_225 »

Thought I'd share some pictures of my current cars, a bit of an odd selection but during my 24 years of driving, I started out as a Renault owner. Moved into RenaultSport ownership and as you'll see I still own two of them. I moved into Mercedes but had my first Saab as a daily car back in 2015 and it got under my skin. Hence I also own two Saabs now. :loco:

So to start off with here's my two remaining Renaults. One is a RenaultSport Twingo 133 Gordini, which I bought new in 2010 and is 1 of 200 sold in the UK, this is number 110. The other is a RenaultSport Megane 225 I bought in 2006. These are a bit of an oddity as the Twingo only has 1,100 miles on the clock and the Megane is about 3,200. I bought them, kids, house, life got in the way so I just carefully stored them as they're not worth a great deal now.

They live a hard life haha.

Back in 2015 I was using a different RS Megane 225 as a daily car but as I got into my 30s, I felt the need for something large, German and more luxurious. So I picked up this Mercedes CLS63 AMG. It was owned at the time by a friends father in law, that friend being a professional detailer so it was in lovely condition and stupidly low mileage as well. This one is yet to tick over 18,000 miles.

It's an interesting car as the 6.2 V8 is pretty savage but the car is extremely comfortable and refined.

Next is this, it replaced a diesel S Class I had previously. It is a 2010 Mercedes CL500 so despite having a 5.5 V8 is the baby of the range. That said it makes a lovely noise, is insanely refined (based on an S Class) and for a two door car is massive! haha

Now the bit that's actually relevant to this club! Finally.

I was on the hunt for a replacement daily car, and having had a 9-3 wagon when I first bought my CLS I had the Saab bug. So went on the hunt for a 1.9ttid in whichever shape seemed to be in the best condition within my budget. Well, I ended up with a convertible in black, had around 125k on the clock. Previous owners husband was a mechanic and there was a list of work that had already been done. Clutch, turbos, serviced properly and cambelt change done. The car has also been re-mapped by Nordic so produces 225bhp which is nice.

This is how it looked when I first picked it up.

I've had a couple of niggles with it, one involving a typical issue whereby the drainage holes were blocked. Resulting in a week long clean up and drying operation. I also had a new steering rack fitted the other week and as a treat I fitted some new wheels to freshen it up.

And lastly, my other Saab 9-3 which was bought as a bit of a project is this, a 2010 2.8 V6 turbo with a few nice options. It's a manual, with XWD and the TX pack added so it transpires is quite rare. Lovely drive though and has a few subtle tweaks.

Decided to experiment with the engine bay with a bit of wrapping, nothing too serious but the exterior is very subtle so I like the brightness.

Appreciate that's a long read but thanks for getting to the end! haha
